The pristine nature, the small villages and the amazing views offered by a mountain landscape overlooking the sea are the main characteristics of this part of Tuscany.
In this region of gray stone houses, green forests and blue sea, is still easy to find castles, fortresses and ancient churches. They used to be a symbol of wealth and prosperity, today it is just a testimony to the past glory.
This area offers a variety of landscapes, inaccessible and pristine mountains and further south hilly land. High Tuscany is well known for the beauty of marble and the Carsico underground. It is an unique place where the visitor can rapidly change the surrounding from calm paths to the crowded beaches of the coast. It makes this area so suitable for all types of tourism.

Apuan Alps
Also known as the mountains of marble, are a true natural jewel. They are protected by a natural park, it is the ideal destination for all nature lovers.

Viareggio
Elegant and trendy, Viareggio is certainly the most popular place on the coast of Versilia. In the summer it’s colorful, in the winter quiet but also attractive. The city of Carnival assures attractions in every season.

Carnival
A long parade lit the passion of a city that is preparing the event for a whole year: organizers usually are inspired by costume, current affairs and politics.

Clubbing
Versilia has a wide range of fashion clubs. They make young and older people enjoy every evening. The fun for lovers of night is assured.

Marble
The valuable white marble of Carrara is drawn from the caves of Apuane. It is famous all over the world because it was used by all of the greatest sculptors of the past: Michelangelo, Giovanni and Nicola Pisano.

Caves
The special limestone of the Apuan Alps made it possible for the water to penetrate into the mountains. It created an extensive network of Carsiche cavities. Some of these caves can be seen today, the emotions are guaranteed.

Lunigiana Castles
Lunigiana is the region of a The Hundred Castles. Towers, forts, defensive structures are perfectly inserted in the typical rural landscape of this area.

Via Francigena
The Via Francigena led from Canterbury to Rome. In the past it was treaded by thousands of pilgrims traveling to the capital of Christendom. In the Middle Age it become one of the most important road. Now it attracts a growing number of people who travel the old route.

S. Anna di Stazzema
Recently returned to prominence thanks to the controversial film by Spike Lee Miracle at St. Anna, the village of Sant'Anna di Stazzema (12th of August, 1944) was the stage of one of the most cruel crimes committed by German soldiers in Italy. The massacre of 560 unarmed civilians, mostly children, women and elderly was recalled in 2000 by the establishment of the National Park of Peace of Sant'Anna di Stazzema. We can’t forget about one of the most brutal Nazi barbarity, we have to appreciate the value of democracy and tolerance.

Festival Puccini
On Massaciuccoli Lake next to the Villa Mausoleum where Puccini lived and composed his works you can feel the charm of classical music in an incredible natural stage.  During more than seventy year history of the Festival dedicated to the work of the Great Master it hosted the most famous and acclaimed opera singer like Mario del Monaco and Luciano Pavarotti.

Botero
The town of Pietrasanta near Lucca has been the summer home of the famous Colombian artist Fernando Botero for  many years. Here, he was designing and assembling his sculptures and also here some of his works are on display.
