In Maremma every stone, every leaf, every tree tells a part of an history. The Etruscan lived here, they had a splendid and refined civilization, Aldobrandeschi and Orsini families took their possessions and the Ottomans Moors arrived here by sea to make their raids. Maremma is one of the most fascinating places in Tuscany.
“Tomboli” connecting the beaches with the islands, dunes and clear water attract tourists to Maremma. Unspoiled nature, stories of treasures and robbers, the Etruscan necropolis, Roman villas and refined mysterious medieval castles….not forgetting the buffalos, huge animals that take pride in the green of the lawn and strike fear and respect, it all makes Maremma be such an original and exciting land.

Parco dell'Uccellina
From the mouth of the river Ombrone until Talamone along 25 km of coastline, extends the Uccellina’s Park. A chain of hills, rough and wild, descends the sea with sandy beaches and cliffs. You can feel the smell of Mediterranean scrub and see the colors of lush and extraordinary varied vegetation.

Butteri della Maremma and  Marca Alberese
Buttero  is an heroic character who, with his horse, used to cross the hard and wild land of Maremma. Today after drainage of this area and because of industrial and civilized development, the art of these Italian cowboys  has almost disappeared but they still exist in the memories of people.

Promontory of Argentario
Next to Giglio and Giannutri islands there is the promontory of Monte Argentario. These area is one of the most interesting place in Italy because of its underwater world, sea bottom full of shells, corals and fishes. Its walls are partly rocky and partly covered with vegetation, they decline violently towards the sea. These promontory has an undeniable charm

The real pearls of the Tuscan Archipelago are the islands of Giglio and Giannutri with their rocks overlooking the crystal clear waters, the intensive smell of Mediterranean maquis, beautiful  beaches and  ancient buildings

The Lagoon of Orbetello
There is an unique ecosystem where live both sea and river fishes. Many temporary species of migratory birds are finding shelter in these lagoon. People had dried up entire lakes to fight with epidemic of malaria caused by insects and mosquitoes. The lagoon of Orbetello is a place that reminds the old appearance of Maremma.  

Pitigliano
On the top of the mountain there is an ancient village called Pitigliano which is surrounded by  the valley. Because of its location it looks as if it was from fairytale. There is an unique aqueduct made by Medici family, churches and  buildings, narrow and picturesque alleys. Pitigliano is also famous for its old Jewish ghetto,  called The Little Jerusalem and it’s a place that you can’t miss while visiting Maremma.

Luna rossa
Who does not remember the extraordinary adventure of Luna Rossa in The America's Cup in 2000? The operational base of the Team Prada was in Punta Ala, a few kilometers from Follonica. Maremma is a great place for sailors. Adventure seekers will find here blue see, always present wind, green pine forests and islands on the horizon.

Dune Feniglia
A long beach made of soft and golden sand, washed by crystal clear water and sheltered by a pine forest, inhabited by deers, wild boars and porcupines. Dune Feniglia is a magic place on the tongue of land that connects the mainland to Monte Argentario.

Rock tombs of Sovana
In Sovana there is The Archeological Park of Tufo. It’s one of the major Etruscan findings. This archeological area is not far from the city and it can be reached by spectacular streets - Vie Cave -  unique, long, dark and narrow ways, deeply recessed into the tufo rock

Thermal Baths of Saturnia
The myth tells that Saturn was so irritated with the view of  the man who was fighting with another man that he took a lightning bolt and threw it onto the ground. Warm and sulphurous water started to spring, it enveloped and quiet everything. Stage of the legend was Saturnia, now famous for its homonymous beautiful and sulphurous spa water.

Metalliferous Hills
Matalliferous Hills are well known since the time of the Etruscans to the presence of iron ore, copper, lead, zinc and deposits of talc. This hills on the border with the territories of Siena and Livorno have always marked the development of the territory, history, culture and the traditions of its inhabitants. Massa Marittima is certainly worth to be visited. It’s a charming village gathered around the magnificent cathedral, characterized by an intense medieval flavor and by an artistic heritage of particular beauty and interest.
